Operation Smile Australia (OSA) believes that every child deserves access to safe, quality health care. Our mission is to mobilise Australian and NZ volunteer medical teams and send them to countries with systemic healthcare inequality, providing free life-changing and critical surgery to children born with facial deformities, in particular cleft lip and cleft palate. A 45-minute surgery can and does change lives and allows these children an opportunity to reach their full potential. To ensure long-term sustainability of these programs, OSA medical teams conduct training for local hospital staff in skills such as post-surgical care, assessment, safe surgery, paediatric life support and nutrition with the long-term goal of program countries taking ownership.
